vBulletin skinning "web 2.0" style

I am interested in making a vBulletin skin "web 2.0"ish, and do not know how to start. I know how to skin a forums alright, but there are obviously some newer CSS markup techniques I have not used or fully understand.

If somebody can point me in the right direction on how to start, because I cannot really find any solid "web 2.0"ish vb design examples.
