Whats the best language to learn if you want to become a programmer?

I am interested in becoming a programmer. I only know html and css.

I realize there are different languages to learn for different areas. I just don't know where to start or what would suit my liking the best. Maybe if you could tell me what language you know and what you do...that may help. Thanks.
