Which one is better - please vote

I'm trying to get my work to let me update our home page's design.

I have only made a small modification to the original design, which
is mainly to remove the outdated tiled background image and replace
that with a header.

The original:

The new one:
http://www.rmichelson.com/index-new.html

Which one do you prefer?

(PS I know both designs are grossly outdated, the management doesn't like change)
