Who here is fed up of the spam we've been getting recently? Well I for one am truly fed up with it.

So, from now on visitors to this site should not have to see spam postings anymore on the forums. There will be one or two that go through the net but most of it should be caught.

This is because we've introduced a new limit to all new members for the first 24 hours of their posting. All these posts will be subject to personal moderation by myself, Alvo or any other moderator before they appear on the boards.

Most of the spam we recieve is from new users, and so this should hopefully make WebDevForums a spam-free environment.

I understand that this is yet another restriction being added to users here but there really is no other option. The good news is this will only affect new users for their first 24 hours. Everyone else won't even notice the difference.

That's awesome, hopefully the spam will disappear.

This restriction will be going away once we get the site owners to some configuration after the recent upgrade to change the method of verifying an actual person and not a bot is registering.

No SPAM is the greatest innovation in the automated world.

Well, from a technological standpoint, Spam can be automated but it isn't self-replicating. It requires human intervention at some point in the process.
On the other hand, trojan downloaders ARE often self-replicating, and might therefore be considered a much greater "innovation".

Hmmm... me wonders why all the "innovations" are used for nefarious purposes.

While Spam can be automated and isn't self-replicating, it is a "royal pain!" Not all innovations are used for nefarious purposes. It just seems that way. For now, we are still working to get things under control. At the same time, there are "forces" at work, trying to undo what we do, or make it look like that is the way to go. For now, we just have to continue marking and deleting spam!
