Imdb like website

Hello everyone,

I'm new to this so I'm not sure that this is the right place to post my question. If not please excuse me :)

I don't have any major experience in creating websites and I have been trying to create a site similar to imdb.com. It is basically a database driven website and has forums and allows users to subscribe, rate and review every movie on their database.

My question is, how do i get started as it all seems like a mountain for me. I obviously need a domain and a hosting package which is pretty easy, but how can i gather all the information about present and past movies like imdb has.

Any information about any software or generally anything that you think could provide me with any assistance is very appreciated.
