Basic Database Search

Hi all!!

I am rather new to website development and am currently working on a website which is somewhat of a business directory. I have found the need to have database here.

I would like to have a search function where the user can search for each business by either name, area, business type, street etc. and upon search completion a list of results with a link for each result. Nothing to fancy

I was hoping someone out there could point me in the right direction or an online tutorial that could be of help to me,
