Change the index page

I need to change the index page from index.php to home.htm. I changed that by creating a .htaccess file and putting "DirectoryIndex home.htm".

Now when i open www.domain.com it opens www.domain.com/home.htm .

The problem is that when i try to open www.domain.com/index.php it won't open, it opens home.htm instead.

Any suggestions?
