little league sports data entry onto a website?

first off, im completely new to web design and data entry. i dont really know what program to use or even how to make a website. however, I know im a pretty fast learner when it comes to computer relations (photoshop, a little xml, maya). I just want to know how deep of a hole i am digging when it comes to the question that i will soon ask.

My friend runs a little league baseball establishment and he has asked me if id be able to gather the stat tracking that he has been writing down for each kid and enter them onto a web site.

for starters which programs would i need and how would i put it up on a website?

you just need some experience in a serverside language like PHP

From there you can integrate a database to hold your stats
