Is Windows 8 the End of the Line for Windows?

From several reports I've read, both the public introduction of Windows 8 as well as the operating system's technical underpinnings are severely underwhelming. Though I am sure the latest version of the world's dominant PC operating system has some interesting advancements, especially on the security front, it doesn't seem there is any huge leap forward here and it may just be that Windows' time for innovation has come to an end.
