    How to go about

    Hi Friends,
I worked as a sw engineer for 4 years and wanted a career change now to web designing. I am just finishing up learning Dreamweaver and planning to learn photoshop in the next few weeks. Once I am thru with learning the basics of the two programs I want to setup my portfolio but dont know how to proceed with this. Do I just do some sample projects on my own. R there any websites that list some sample projects. PLs advice me on how to proceed.
    TIA

there are a few things you can do to get a portfolio
    - approach local businesses and ask them if they want a cheap website
    - do websites for free (check the request area, there are loads)
    - go on sites such as http://www.getafreelancer.com/ and place cheap bids.
    - maybe make a few templates up but it is better to have actual companies.

also get a testimonial from them.
