How can i make a single image stretch the width of my webpage without distorting the image ie. make the people in photo look stumpy and fat
therefore creating a panoramic image from one image only

Let's see, you want to stretch an image in only one direction without distorting it? That kinda goes against the laws of physics. You could take your image and have it fade into a solid color and then continue that solid color across what ever distance you need to cover or make a really, really, really wide image that's wider than the maximum you think will ever be used and simply have it cropped by the browser to whatever width is needed.
