Looking for a host

I've got a new client who has a domain registered through GoDaddy.com. Personally, I have never done a site through GoDaddy, but I have not heard very good things about them.

My original plan was to add this domain as an add-on through my personal web hosting account, but then there's no way for the client to have access (and she is requiring access -- says she's taken a basic web design course and wants to be able to edit content as required) to the account without giving her my personal login information.

I guess I'm looking for a couple of things. The ideal one would be a web hosting company where it's possible to add an authorized user to the account (and restrict access to their specific domain). I have no idea if this even exists.

The other option would be for the client to add hosting to their domain via GoDaddy, so that she can still have access. What I'm unsure of then is of any issues with GoDaddy that I may run into. As I've said, I haven't used them before, but haven't necessarily heard good things about them.

Hopefully someone can offer up some advice, and I thank all that reply in advance.

If you expect to have more clients requesting similar access then you might consider asking your hosting provider to upgrade you to a small reseller account. You could then create accounts for those clients who want access, or set up separate accounts for those who don't and manage them for the client outside of your own personal account.

I've used GoDaddy's services for years and while I really haven't had any trouble from them I read a lot of bad things as well. It's kind of like the Wal-Mart of web hosting in a way and their control panels and purchasing screens leave a lot to be desired. If it's a small site your client has then it may be suitable for them. If they're on a limited budget then there's another reason for going with GoDaddy but there are lots of options out there for low-cost hosting.

I've used a company based in Montreal (www.iWeb.com) that's been great for a lot of my small client sites.

I used hostgator and had a dedicated reseller which was inexpensive, reliable, and offered a cpanel to every user. It was actually a great set up. I imagine most hosting companies offer something similar, and I think there are good reviews of hosting providers on this forum and others.

Godaddy is only good for domains...haven`t heard good things about it as a web host.
I have used Hostgator for almost 2 years and it works perfect

You best get a reseller hosting account. This allows you to sell hosting plan under your own (large) hosting plan. Your customers will have a login to their own control panel and will only be able to control their own hosting plan and domain.

Alternatively you cuold join an affiliate program. In this way you wouldn't have to manage anything yourself and still get some money. On the other hand, your customer won't buy your hosting.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I like the sound of a reseller account, but I simply don't have the client base to justify something like that yet. Definitely something to consider once I really get going though.

Not sure if you guys realize this, I just stumbled upon it, but this forum actually has webhosting links in the left hand margin. If you like this site you might want to click through there and support the folks who keep this forum running smoothly for all of us ;-)

you advertise planetonline.net on another website, i notice,
you sure you dont own it?

also,
i would get a cheap reseller account and offer each client ther own cpanel login, this way there would be nothing to worrie about,

perhaps hostgator? i think its only like $25?

hope this helps abit, if you feel you need more info, please do pm me.,

just an idea, you could always get a vps with a free control panel and offer it this was, could also be cheaper,

but i wouldnt recommend using a dedicated server yet, and they can be quite expencive.

I Highly Suggest...

What WebHosting I would highly Suggest Is Pringlehosts [ Soon To Be eFlex] Because they have amazing plans you can get Unlimited Hosting for £5.00, But if you dont want to pay £5.00 You dont have to because you can also get Bronze which is £1.00.

With pringle-hosts you get so many features to, Plus the staff are polite and there's live support if you want to get to know more details.

I don't think hosting domain from the same company is bad. Important thing is domain. if your domain registrar is a bad guy then it will be problem. We are also register our domain in GoDaddy,We can't facing any trouble.

I also use hostgator with a WHS (wholesale hosting account) which works good for what you are wanting. Separate IPs on each site with their own SSL certs and shopping carts, etc. Hostgator support is decent for the most part. Better than most.

I tried both hosting and domain thru Godaddy. Not bad but I found more convenient if she can register her domain and hosting on separated company. Some company has attractive domain but not in hosting and vice versa.
