Directory Submissions Reduce Traffic???

Hi Adam,
I've been submitting my company's website manually to a number of directories with high Alexa ranks.
What puzzles me is that ever since I've begun the submission process, instead of traffic increasing, there has been a drastic fall in normal traffic. This is a reverse effect which has my boss all hyper and am now really paranoid about further submitting to any directories.
I understand that there may not be immediate results after such marketing efforts, but to have your normal traffic decreased as a consequence of it, is too depressing.
Could you tell me how this has come to be?
Thanks in Advance,
Arjyesh Ray

hi,
I hope you didn't do anything wrong by posting your link to directories. If you think directory will give you lots of traffic then you are wrong.
Directory may help you in SEO if you put your link in the related field of interest and higher alexa ranks. It may sometimes give you direct traffic but the main purpose is served for SEO.
For achieving a good number of traffic you should promote your site on social sites, advertise on different site, do some blog post and forum post, article submission and create backlinks.
Hope if you can do those works then you will be profited. Best of Luck

Regards,
Adam

Traffic can't be down due to this reason. I am not agree. you must check SERP of your keywords. Are they on same positions as they were? Check it..

Post Re:

HI,

As i know, You will not getting traffic from only directory submission. to getting traffic we want our key word on top. and to stuck with this position you have to apply different seo techniques like social bookmarking, article & press release submission, classified ads submissions. from that you will get your traffic back. your problem is keyword ranking. concentrate on keyword and try to get high serp.

If you submit to a directory that google deems as a directory with the purpose of falsely inflating your SERP then Google can penalize your website for doing the same. In a sence, you are guilty by association.
