Is displaying press releases bad for SEO?

Hello,
I have a news website and sometimes, not all the time, I come accross an interesting press release by a company on my subject and therefore display it as a news entry. These are displayed on many sites on my subject area, same releases word by word. So, when I include such a press release will I get penalized for duplicate content?

If it is a press release amongst a page of original content, no, I wouldn't have thought so.

My thinking is that a press release is meant for the press (you) to republish on their site. If you are worried about duplicate content, you could try getting an exclusive interview or follow-up.
