Help a Noob in need of advice and tool selection GoLive CS2 or Dreamweaver?

First of all just like to say ‘Hi’ I’m new

Bit of a two parter… I’m looking at getting back into web design after a long (6 year) break of course since then things have changed a lot.

1.) I’m not sure of where to start learning up on CSS, php and generally refreshing skills if anyone can recommend a free tutorial site that has a strong user community and great advice that would be much appreciated.

2.) Also I can’t decide which application to begin designing with between Adobe GoLive CS2 and Dreamweaver I like the interface on both applications. I'm looking for the most productive tool that is easy to get to grips with and has some quite advance features I can learn later once I get to grips with things again.

    Thanks in advance.

The problem with Dreamweaver and similar programs is that they do all the work for you, then people post questions here because they have got in a mess and the Dreamweaver code is too complicated for them to understand. It repeats code to be sure it covers all situations and that can be confusing too.

If you had some knowledge six years ago, why not start coding again from first principles using Notepad and online tutorials?

http://www.w3schools.com/ is very good, but so detailed you have to search for what you want.

Code downloaded to my PC will be deleted in due course.
WIN7; IE9, Firefox, Opera, Chrome and Safari for Windows; screen resolution usually 1366*768.
    Also IE6 on W98 with 800*600 and IE8 on Vista 1440*900.
