Someone else pointing there domain name at our server

Can anyone explain why someone would choose to buy a domain name then point it at one of our websites? Can they bump up search engine rankings in this way?

I've contacted the individual who has registered the domain, but he refuses to reply so I don't think it is a mistake.

    Thanks in advance.

They could bump up your hits by increasing the number of possible search results that a user might find since both domains could return SERPS. However it's more likely that it could be malicious - Google can penalise for duplicate content - usually its the newer domain that it penalises but maybe the domain owner thinks you may get penalised.

Have you annoyed anyone recently? ;-)
