Updating code on other pages automatically

Hi,
Might be an easy question but:

When I update a certain part of code in my home page, how do I get the other pages that contain the same code get updated automatically? Is there a way? Like assiging a variable and calling the variable etc? I am new to web design so as much detail and any examples are appreciated.
