    Shading outside of container

    Trying to figure out how to shade the outside of my container similar to this site: http://www.hipepc.com/

    The shading looks to change depending on what's next to it, so i want to guess its driven via web, rather than pre-done in photoshop. Could anyone take a stab and guess how they did it? Also trying to figure out how they made their menu's, looks like very simple java script but i'll be digging around to find a solution for that.
