Rss & xml

Ok I have never used RSS feeds before. Basically my plan was to receive an RSS feed and hammer it into my database to display on my site.
My understanding was RSS was in XML format.

I downloaded a RSS reader (Snarfer) but it doesnt appear I can edit or look at the code for any of the feeds.

I am new to this. Any help?

Use PHP to parse the XML and enter into a db table. I'm not a guy with the full skill set to do so...
