    SSL Cert.

The company I work for has a website that uses a SSL cert. I want to know if it is really necessary.

We have a merchant account with authorize.net.

On our website, people are able to register for golf events and make donations. They fill out forms with info like name, address, phone, etc. the price fields are usually fixed unless making a donation.

When they submit the form it goes to a file on our site that gathers the info and sends it to https://secure.authorize.net/gateway/transact.dll along with our merchant id and transaction key. on this site is where the person will fill out their billing info, like cc#.

So I am unsure if it is needed because there isn't really any secure info being filled out by the visitor. But it might need to be there to protect our merchant id and transaction key?

Let me know what you think.
    Thanks.

I was just informed that Authorize.net requires that the SSL is there. So I guess that answers that.
