Question Displaying latest news in an innovatve way on the front of a website?

Hi, I've been asked by a client to create a front page display similar to that used in the Featured section on the Yahoo home page http://uk.yahoo.com/

Ideally a space for a photo and some text (perhaps covering a larger area than Yahoo do) but underneath this to have 8 to 12 thumbnailed images and headlines. Hovering over the thumbnails would make that story fill the main box.

Very keen to hear recommended solutions for this. Is there an off the shelf package I could use? or is this something that will need to be coded from scratch?

Thank you in advance for your very kind help.

    Matt

I haven't come across something similar that can be easily downloaded and installed. You should store the news articles in the database. Once there you can output the most recent etc... or some other criteria using PHP/ASP/JSP etc... You would then use javascript to swap articles and images around between the thumbnails. Very doable with not too much effort. :-)
