object expected

I'm using

 <object id="oldiframeleft" type="text/html" data="mainleftnavigation.html"></object>

to call an .asp file.

It works in all but IE. IE gives me object expected. I'm not sure if it's how I'm calling it, or a problem with the .asp. I don't really code in .asp, I sent that file to a developer to check over but does anyone know if my call is correct?

oops I found it, it was in the .asp file, I had a bad path. That's all it was.
