Working With Anchor Tags

Can someone help me with this?

I have a series of anchor references on one page within the sight I am building that has a fixed menu bar, but when I click on the link, the beginning of the section I linked is behind the fixed menu image.

I have moved the <div id="reference"> up a couple of paragraphs but that does not give me an exact placement. Is that the best I can do?
