    preloading images

so i have been trying to figure out a way to get my pages to load faster and my images to come up faster. i know js is not a good idea since not everyone has it enabled. but what if you only have a homepage, and not an intro. page where your images can load? here's what i'm looking at doing: http://www.netmechanic.com/news/vol6/css_no18.htm. is there a better way, or does this work? it doesn't make sense to preload the images on the same page, or for a photo album, does it? i'm thinking something along the lines of flash, but don't know too much about it, especially how to do a loading intro. page. any ideas or resources that i could utilize/look into or any tutorials?

    thanks.

and then could i put a js redirect or a link after this, so when it is done loading the images, the user could continue to the homepage? would this work?
